Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class at Phantom

What Age Can Kids Start BJJ?

At Phantom Jiu Jitsu Academy in Herndon, kids can start at age 6. The current kids program accepts ages 6 to 9 and 10 to 13. There isn't one starting age that fits every child or every academy.

Is your child ready to try a class?

Age is one part of the decision. Before a BJJ trial, think about what you've seen when your child learns something new:

  • Can they follow directions?
  • Can they work with a partner?
  • Can they try again after getting frustrated?
  • Do they want to try Jiu Jitsu?

These are things to consider before requesting a trial, not a test your child has to pass.

Kids Jiu Jitsu at Phantom

Phantom's kids program page describes a curriculum for new and experienced students.

Parent Paul Barrick wrote that his son's interest in Jiu Jitsu had varied as instructors and classmates changed. After the family chose Phantom, he wrote:

Our son recently declared Frank is his favorite teacher ever, and is excited for every class.
