When Should a Beginner Try an All Levels BJJ Class?

Ask your instructor about All Levels when you have something specific you want to work on. Tell them where you get stuck, then ask which class could help. If your instructor thinks All Levels fits, you can ask whether to keep Fundamentals in your week, too.

What do Fundamentals and All Levels cover at Phantom Jiu Jitsu?

At Phantom Jiu Jitsu in Herndon, Fundamentals welcomes day-one students. It helps prepare them for All Levels and Advanced. All Levels brings newer and more experienced students together. They work on technique, train live, and build their skills. See the adult class descriptions for more detail.

What if you get lost during BJJ practice?

Imagine you attend Tuesday’s 6 PM No-Gi Fundamentals class. You follow the demonstration, but you get lost when it is time to practice the position. Friday’s 6 PM No-Gi All Levels class is on the current schedule. You could tell your instructor where you get stuck and ask, “Should I add Friday, or keep working in Fundamentals?” If they suggest Friday, ask what to work on there. If they suggest more Fundamentals, ask what to practice before you try All Levels.
